Cut the apples away from
the core into thin slices. I don't peel the apples, but you
could if the peels were particularly unattractive. Arrange the
apples in an 8-inch square pan. Sprinkle on the cinnamon, nutmeg,
syrup and lemon juice. Toss or stir the apples to coat them
evenly with the spices and syrup. Dot the top of the apples
with margarine or butter. Bake at 350° for about 30
minutes. If you prefer your apples to steam a little then cover
the pan with tin foil before baking. I prefer mine to bake
uncovered. Serve hot with breakfast, lunch or as a dessert.
These are an old southern favorite. They are cheap, good and no
one will know that they are diet food.
VARIATION
If desired you may replace
the margarine or butter with 2-tablespoons of prepared liquid Butter
Buds. Drizzle it over the apples before baking.
