  • 1-1/2 cups powdered sugar
  • Dash salt
  • 1 tablespoon oil
  • 1 tablespoon black strap or regular molasses
  • 2 tablespoons skim milk (reconstituted is fine)

This frosting is simplicity itself to make. Measure all of the ingredients into a medium sized bowl. Stir well, until the frosting is smooth. Spread it thinly over a cooled cake.

The molasses gives this frosting a delicious caramel flavor, but without the difficulty of caramelizing sugar. This dressing is a little bit gooey, so don’t expect it make pretty swirls or puffs. The flavor is magnificent though. Great for spicy cakes flavored with pumpkin or carrot or cinnamon.

Makes enough to frost a 9 by 13-inch cake, which is cut into 24 pieces.
